COURSE SYNOPSIS
The secretarial profession is one of the oldest in World. The contributions of secretaries to the development of an organization in particular and the nation in general cannot be over stressed as there is no organization where the service of a secretarial staff is not needed. The secretary plays a very vital role in the organization as he/she uses and applies his or her intellectual and professional wealth of experience in enhancing the growth of the overall efficiency of such organization.
The administrative functions or duties of a secretary in an office was described in the age of computer technology that the manager of a computer installation company, whether the department is large or small, will need the services of a secretary. For the same reason, any other executive needs a secretary to make appointments, receive and screen visitors, keep records, handle type flow charts, organization layout chart, design work procedures, and take dictations assist in designing and planning, contribute to management decision making process, attend meetings and take minutes.

THE OBJECTIVES OF THE MANDATORY CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (MCPD)
1. To create a forum for sharing institutional and corporate experience in secretarial Management and training
2. To equip members of the institute with technical skills and understanding in the discharge of professional duties.
3. To educate members on the implication of poor secretarial administration.
PROGRAMME FACILITATORS
Facilitators would be drawn from experienced professionals in Secretarial Practice and Management with extensive experience in each subject areas.
1. The MCPD is compulsory for every member of the Nigerian Institute of Professional Secretaries.
2. Prospective members may also attend.
NOTE: 1. MCPD attracts 40 credit Points per year and is compulsory for all members
2. Members who do not earn up to 20 credit Points in a year stand the risk of their names being deleted from the membership register.
Please note that registration would commence from 10.00 a.m. on the first day of the course at the same venue.

MEMBERSHIP ADMISSION PROCEDURES
MEMBERSHIP OF THE INSTITUTE:
Membership is by application. Acceptable members would normally possess a University Degree, HND//SCII/ND, and Diploma/Certificate in Secretarial Administration, Computer Studies, and Office Technology Management from the Universities, Polytechnics and other professional Institutions.
THE GRADES FOR MEMBERSSHIP ARE-
HONORARY FELLOWS (CIPS)
Honorary Fellowship is conferred exceptionally by the Institute on individuals in recognition of their achievements in their fields of specialization. The award is open to Heads of State, Governors, Ministers, Commissioners, Members of the National Assembly, Permanent Secretaries Directors, Professors, Head of Departments, Chairmen/Chief Executives of Companies, Senior Managers in private and public Organizations, Members of the Armed Forces and the Police, etc.
FELLOWS (fips)
This grade is for highly experienced and holders of B.Sc./HND or its equivalent in Secretarial Administration who have worked for a period of not less than fifteen (15) years and have been an active member on “MEMBERSHIP GRADE” of the Institute for a period not less than ten (10) years to qualify for consideration.
Senior Secretarial Lecturers in the Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education or Vocational/Technical Colleges, etc., may also be considered for this grade after five (5) active years on “Membership Grade” of the Institute to qualify for consideration.
MEMBER (mips )
A seasoned Secretarial Professional with a recognized reputation who can demonstrate that he/she has served employers satisfactorily as a Full time or part time ethical practitioner for uninterrupted period of
three (3) years. He/She would normally have a University Degree, HND or any other equivalent professional qualification in Secretarial Administration/Office Technology Management, acceptable to the Council of the Institute.
PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS will be required to take part in the Membership (on-line) Qualifying Examinations.
ASSOCIATES (AIPS):
The Associate Membership grade of the Institute is granted to any person who qualified as a Secretary He/She would normally have ND/Diploma/SC IV/III Certificate, and attend eight (8) week-ends proficiency course and sit for Membership qualifying Examinations in Secretarial Administration.
Graduates in other disciplines but with Secretarial background may also be considered for admission but will also be required to attend eight weekends Office Orientation course and sit for the Membership Qualifying Examinations.
STUDENT MEMBERSHIP :
This is the lowest grade of membership of the Institute to be admitted to student membership grade, the applicant must be attending a full/part time courses in Secretarial Studies/Office Technology Management in Commercial/Vocational/Technical Colleges, Colleges of Education, Polytechnics or at the Universities.

CERTIFICATE AWARD REQUIREMENTS
every candidate must satisfy the examiners in all the required courses, pay all the specified fees, attend all the lectures, sit for the examinations, pass all the registered courses and submit a project before the award of certificate. There will be continuous assessment/semester tests while final examinations will be conducted at the end of the programme.
GRADUATION CEREMONY
On satisfactory completion of the programme, the Institute will organize a graduation ceremony for all the successful candidates and inducted as members of the Institute. The cost of the ceremony will be borne by the graduating/inducting students.
